The Digital Marketing World Can Seem Chaotic, But It Doesn’t Have To Be
In the first episode of Marketing of the Minds, our experts discuss the current trends across all digital marketing platforms. From how to navigate the new and uncertain world of digital marketing, to getting FREE money from Google and effective marketing “hacks” that you can start implementing into your marketing strategy today, you’ll discover how to best utilize SEO, PPC and Social Media strategies to not only help your business survive but thrive during this time.
Below we take the main ideas and strategies as discussed in the video and expand on each of these methods so that you can start executing these strategies for your business.
Make Google My Business Work For You
Google My Business (GMB) is one of the most underutilized digital marketing tools and it’s completely free! As Nate, President & Founder of Arcane Marketing points out, only 38% of businesses are using Google My Business and of those 38%, less than half have completed listings! And as we know, Google favors those businesses who use their marketing tools as they were meant to be used. So what does this mean for you? Complete your Google My Business listing and you will be rewarded with higher rankings. Other important ways to use your GMB listing during this time:
- Let your customers know if you’re open, closed, or your new hours during this time.
- GMB has a COVID-19 feature that allows you to add time-sensitive information that will get in front of your customer’s eyes.
- Download the GMB app or use your desktop to create posts.
- Post regularly. Posts last 7 days and our trends show that the more businesses are consistent with their GMB posts, the more engagement they have.
Create Content That Connects
Usually, digital marketers are creating content to establish a business as an expert in their specific field or niche. However, like Chad, Arcane Marketing’s COO, discusses in this episode, due to COVID-19 many people have a lot more free time which means they are on their screens more than ever. Because of this, much of the content we are creating currently isn’t so much to drive authoritative keywords but to give people something to do while they are at home. Right now no one cares if you’re the best orthodontist within a 25-mile radius. They want to know how to entertain their kids for more than 10 minutes so they can get some peace and quiet! People want some semblance of normalcy and right now we have the opportunity to provide them with it. Content should always be engaging, but when it comes to the current climate and content creation, the main point here is to connect to your audience.

Video Killed The Radio Star
Video is the number one form of content consumed around the world. And it’s one of the easiest ways to get your business to rank better on search engine result pages (SERPs). And right now, more than ever, creating 5 to 10-second ( or longer) video clips across all of your social platforms and on your website is more important than ever.
There are tons of free video software resources online that you can use and also professional digital marketing videographers that can help you get your brand and message across in a compelling way. Even taking a quick video of you and your business doing what you do best from your smartphone will increase engagement and build trust, which leads us to our next and final marketing approach for today’s marketing climate.
Social Media: Connection Through Transparency
If you can only do one thing for your business today, start working on your Social Media presence.
As Ryan, Arcane’s Visionary & Founder, poignantly points out in the video, “who of us isn’t on social media during the day?” And while many of us have a love/hate relationship with Social Media, it is still one of the most direct ways to connect with people across the globe.
There is a huge amount of leverage on social media because this is how people are trying to connect with each other while they are stuck at home. Whether this is through Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, etc., the need for authentic, transparent connection is greater than ever.
Currently, something that Ryan mentions in the video, he’s seeing more activity on Facebook than ever before! Since we know this is where people are going to be while they are scrolling on their phones, it makes sense to take advantage of it.
Just as previously mentioned, the content your producing needs to be about genuine connection, transparency, and authenticity. Progressive businesses will understand the importance of having their business take a “step back” at this time to truly build a relationship with their audience based on trust and fellowship. And, while it may seem like your business is taking on a smaller role, in essence, you are stepping forward and letting your audience know that you are there for them even during times of uncertainty.
So right now as a business owner, you have to create a good user experience for your customers. The message needs to be cohesive across all of your social media platforms and website. And if you don’t have a Brand vision or guide yet – get one. This will make it that much easier for you to advertise and for people to remember your business
Ask yourself, “ How can I create a virtual experience for your customers?”
Give them a chance to see the behind the scenes of your business.
And finally, make sure that you’re tracking this information to see how your strategy is performing with tools like Facebook Pixels and Google Analytics.
